Documents Related to Enchin
Documents Related to Enchin joins religious history with the formal act of issuing a court document. The museum’s commentary supplies a concrete example within a record covering several documents.
A court act made visible in writing
The preserved commentary discusses a document written by Ono no Michikaze at age 34, concerning posthumous honours associated with Enchin and Zomyo. It explains the document’s role in conveying an imperial order to the temple. This particular commentary should not be used to attribute every item in the grouped record to the same hand.

Compare function as well as calligraphy
An editorial comparison with Shibayama Nobutoyo’s letter separates a personal communication from a formal transmission of court authority. Both can be examined as writing, but their recipients, purposes and documentary settings change the questions to ask. The broad category “Calligraphy” should not erase those differences.

A grouped record needs careful citation
The source record describes eight scrolls and two documents, with a broad ninth-to-tenth-century period. Identify the particular document when citing an image or statement about a hand, date or content. B-2405 is the collection reference for this entry, whose National Treasure designation is explicit. Its current exhibition status is not supplied.
